Making the Most of Your Third Year

Students from the IUSM Third Year Class were invited to join senior AOA members for a gathering at a local restaurant. Discussion topics included reflections on students’ experiences in the clinical setting, the attributes of a great junior medical student, and how students can develop habits to help maximize every learning opportunity available in the third year clinical clerkships. A total of 50 attendees, 30 juniors and 20 seniors, enjoyed this chance to interact in an informal setting and help one another promote the pursuit of true excellence in our roles as medical students on the wards.
Trick or Treat for the Hungry

Partnering with the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry, a handful of IUSM AOA members devoted their Halloween evening to the collection of non-perishable food items from residents of local apartment buildings. Collection bins were placed in buildings on the IUSM campus as well, and in the end, 600 pounds of food were donated to Indianapolis’s families in need. This event was a fun opportunity for the student members of our AOA chapter to work together and serve our community in a simple but creative way.
AOA Fall Social

Faculty President Dr. Peter Johnstone and his wife generously invited the student members of IUSM Alpha Omega Alpha to their home for an enjoyable evening filled with food, laughter, and great conversation. Students used this opportunity to reflect on the progress made thus far this year and to elect a new President- and Secretary-elect from the junior class. Several resident members also joined the group and provided their own insight on the meaning of AOA membership. The event provided a welcome break from the busy schedules of everyone in attendance.
